weisswurst and brezen

Viktualienmarkt weisswurst

white sausage

Submitted by:Chuck

Photo Taken on: Apr 26 , 2009

Streetfood: Weisswurst(white sausage)
Location: Markt Metzger, Viktualienmarkt

Taste: 10 Come-Back: 10

----------------------------------------------------

City: Munich
Country: Germany
Price: about € 2.50

Temperature served: hot
Served with: weisswurstsenf(Sweet whole grain mustard) and Brezen
Description: On my first day arriving Munich, I found this butcher shop which sells sauages and other perserved meat
in Viktualienmarkt, a food market in the middle of Munich. It caught my eye when I saw locals were lining up for "Leberkase" with bread, it is a loaf of meat which looks like luncheon. It only sold for 1.50 euro. (most food cost like at least 2.00 euro in Germany). However I saw the woodboard menu saying there are 2 pieces of White Sausages(Weisswurst) with Pretzel(Brezel) for only 2.5 euro. This is what I've long been waiting for!!! The infamous boiled german sauage which enjoy by peeling of the casing and sucks the meat out. The meat texture is like a very soft meat ball, not very salty compare to other sausages and served with sweet whole grain mustard and pretzel. In the picture, you also can see the inside of the Markt Metzger butcher shop. Some people are buying Leberkase, some people are buying sausages and other presevered meat by weight to have it with bread right away.

currywurst

Photo Taken on: Feb , 2006

Streetfood: Currywurst
Location: A little fast food store, opposite the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtnis-Kirche, at the top of the famous street Kurfurstendamm in Berlin, Germany.

Taste: 9 Come-Back: 9

----------------------------------------------------

City: Berlin
Country: Germany
Price: about € 3.00

Temperature served: Hot - chips straight out of the deep-fryer and sausage straight off the grill.
Served with: Mayonnaise on the chips, piquant ketchup and curry powder on the sausage.
Description: The Currywurst is a cooked Bratwurst sausage that is then chopped into bite-sized pieces in a special device they have in the shop that they do right in front of you. The sausage pieces are then doused with ketchup and liberally sprinkled with curry powder. It is then served with hot chips and mayonnaise. Very good.

Health rating: 1 (you can't eat too many of these bad boys, but they taste awesome!)

doner kebab

Streetfood: Doener Kebab (Doner Kebab)
Location: Marmaris

Taste: 8 Come-Back: 9

----------------------------------------------------

City: Frankfurt am Main
Country: Germany
Price: € 3.50

Temperature served: 50 C
Served with: Choice between garlic, yoghurt or chili sauce and chili powder
Description: Mostly meat from turkey and vegetables with different sauces (see above), inside a pide bread pocket, for takeaway convenience. Sold by Turkish restaurants in Germany, unknown inTurkey.

The story:
We came out of a bar around 3.30 am, a little, but not too much drunk. We decided not to go home yet, there was still a lot to do ;-). Being hungry at that time directly led us to Frankfurts red light district, where the restaurants close (if at all) at 5 am. We waited endless three minutes for those two, actually put a little too much of that hot chili thing on it. We enjoyed this with some beer and ayran and went on with our pursuit...

currywurst

Photo Taken on: April 30, 2006

Streetfood: Currywurst
Location: street name is "Unter den Linden", next to some fancy opera or theatre

Taste: 6 Come-Back: 2

----------------------------------------------------

City: Berlin
Country: Germany
Price: € 2,49 i think

Temperature served: warm
Served with: curry sauce and roll
Description: Currywurst is a very famous German kind of sausage and Berlin is THE place to eat it (like Doner). So when I went to visit a friend in Berlin she decided I had to eat at least one time one. That street shop was the only one around when we got hungry and because it's quite a posh quarter with lots of government institutions around the wurst was quite small for the price :( p.s the come-back rating is low because hardly ever visit Berlin :(
